Mars:
This was the first picture I took of mars, shot thru a 60mm scope. I am showing this to encourage anyone who's first pictures come out bad to keep trying.
This was a test shot I took thru the 114mm newt when Mars was about a month away from opposition. I took this mainly to figure out the light level, but again I'm showing it to show people not to give up if they get a crappy picture.
This was taken within a week of Mars' opposition. It was shot thru a barlowed 18mm eye piece with a 1.3 mega pixel point and shoot camera, and is a "stack" of 30 shots each. This is why you don't want to give up. It is not hubble quality, or even the quality that people with more expensive equipment are getting, but for dirt cheap astrophotography I'm happy with it.
Like my first Mars shot, my first Saturn shots were not much. Taken thru a 25mm eye piece in a 60mm scope:
Thru a 12.5 mm eye piece in the 114 mm Newt:
A "stack" of 6 shots taken the same way as above:
Shot thru a barowed 18mm eye piece, a "stack" of 30 shots each (second picture is resampled at 200%):
And a shot of Jupiter. Needless to say, I have also taken some really lousy pictures of Jupiter, but this one is at least half decent for dirt cheap astrophotography.
More to come, Venus, and Mercury.
